Oily hair

Oily hair is characterised by being limp, hard to style and difficult to manage and is caused by the scalp being too dry. A dry scalp causes the oil glands to produce more oil. Once this oil is on the scalp, it quickly transfers to the hair itself causing the greasy look.

To treat oily hair, the dry scalp must firstly be remedied. Use a shampoo specially designed for oily hair; shampoos that contain tea tree or lemon work particularly well for alleviating a dry scalp.

When washing hair, massage the shampoo firstly into the scalp, then work through from roots to ends. Avoid excessive heat styling usage as this will further dry the scalp. Conditioners should be used only occasionally and when doing so the roots must be avoided.

Do not brush oily hair too frequently as this stimulates the scalp and produces more oil. Try to avoid oil in your daily food intake.
